Success and inspiration are of course not mutually exclusive, but they are not necessarily always linked, either. Inspiration cannot be used as a means to an end. But it's clear that inspired work often leads to success. On the other hand, an individual life can be inspired, even without the obvious trappings of success.

I seriously feel sorry for the lost masterpiece...perhaps one day you might hit upon another similar composition and complete it? But then again artists are driven by impulses and other intense emotions, including regret...
